Insomnia and menopause tend to go hand-in-hand. Aside from insomnia, however, menopausal women also experience other symptoms every single day, like hot flashes, irritability and fatigue.

Some common menopausal symptoms include falling hormone levels that might affect your sleep, hot flashes, sleep apnea, relationship problems and even general depression.

To treat these symptoms, you should avoid drinking coffee and alcohol, and avoid eating chocolate and smoking as much as possible. Instead, you should consume herbal supplements, such as black cohosh and other kinds of products that can treat the problem.

It would also help if you learned to relax more. A lot of techniques out there can help you out in this department, like yoga, biofeedback and self-hypnosis. Also, because hot flashes will be very uncomfortable at night, you should try to cool down your bedroom and darken it for the utmost peace and calm. Try to breathe deeply and wear cool clothes, too, until the hot flashes pass.

Happily married with two kids (one in college). I love watching cooking shows when I'm not working and always look forward to a glass of wine at the end of the day!
